1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how BetHive.co.za (“BetHive”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, shares and protects personal information when you visit or communicate with us through the website.

This Privacy Policy should be read together with BetHive’s Cookie Policy and Terms and Conditions.

BetHive is an independently owned South African betting-information, comparison and affiliate-marketing website. BetHive is not a casino, bookmaker or gambling operator and does not accept bets, deposits or withdrawals.

2. Who is responsible for personal information?

BetHive is responsible for personal information that it determines how and why to process through this website. Our contact details and privacy contacts appear in section 16 below.

Third-party websites, gambling operators, affiliate networks and service providers may be separately responsible for information they collect directly from you. Their own privacy notices apply to that processing.

3. Personal information we may collect

Depending on how you use BetHive, we may collect or generate:

• Your name, email address and the contents of a message when you contact us;
• Your email address, age confirmation, subscription status and source when you request the newsletter;
• Internet Protocol address, browser, device, operating system and approximate location information;
• Visit dates and times, pages viewed, links clicked, referrals, website performance and error information;
• Cookie choices, consent version, timestamp and selected categories;
• Affiliate link, page, campaign and click identifiers when affiliate tracking is enabled with your consent; and
• Records needed to answer a request, resolve a complaint, protect the website or comply with law.

We do not ask for or need your gambling password, betting-account balance, full betting history, banking credentials or payment-card information. Do not send this information to BetHive.

4. How we collect personal information

We collect personal information directly from you when you submit a form, subscribe, communicate with us or change your cookie choices. We may also collect technical and usage information from your browser or device when the relevant technology is necessary or when you have consented to an optional category.

We may receive limited referral or campaign information from an affiliate network or operator where a qualifying action is attributed to BetHive. The third party remains responsible for the information it independently collects from you.

5. How and why we use personal information

6. Cookies and consent

BetHive separates strictly necessary technologies from analytics, advertising, affiliate-tracking and optional functional technologies. Optional categories remain switched off unless and until you consent.

You can accept, reject or change categories through Cookie Settings in the website footer. Withdrawing consent stops future use of the relevant optional technology. It may not remove cookies already stored by a third party, which BetHive cannot control.

7. Newsletters and contact messages

We use information submitted through the contact form to respond to your enquiry and keep an appropriate record of it. We use newsletter details only to manage and deliver the subscription you requested.

You may unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe method in the message or by contacting us. Service or privacy responses you requested are not marketing.

8. Affiliate links and third-party operators

Some BetHive links are affiliate links. BetHive may receive a commission if a visitor follows a link and completes a qualifying action. Affiliate arrangements do not increase a price charged by BetHive and must not determine an editorial rating.

When affiliate-tracking consent is absent, BetHive uses an untracked destination where one is available and does not initiate optional affiliate tracking. A third-party operator may apply its own cookies and privacy practices after you leave BetHive. BetHive does not control those technologies or the personal information you give directly to that operator.

9. Sharing personal information

We may share limited personal information with providers that help us host, secure, operate, measure or communicate through the website, but only where the relevant service is enabled and the sharing is necessary for its stated purpose.

We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect legal rights or safety, or during a genuine business reorganisation subject to appropriate safeguards. We do not sell personal information as a standalone product.

10. International processing

Some hosting, communications, analytics, advertising or affiliate providers may process information outside South Africa.

Where the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”) applies, BetHive will use providers and transfer mechanisms that offer appropriate legal protection or another lawful basis for cross-border processing.

11. Retention

BetHive keeps personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, or as required or permitted by law.

Retention periods depend on the type of record, the reason it is held, legal obligations, dispute requirements and security needs. When information is no longer required, BetHive deletes, destroys or de-identifies it as soon as reasonably practicable.

12. Security

BetHive uses reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

13. Children and minors

BetHive’s betting-related information and affiliate content is intended only for people aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from, direct gambling advertising to, or encourage gambling by minors.

If you believe a minor has provided personal information to BetHive, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

14. Your rights

Subject to POPIA and other applicable law, you may have the right to:

• Ask whether BetHive holds personal information about you;
• Request access to or correction of personal information;
• Request deletion or destruction where legally available;
• Object to certain processing;
• Withdraw consent for future processing based on consent;
• Ask about the identity of third parties that received your information where the law provides; and
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Some rights are subject to lawful limitations, including record-retention or legal-claim requirements.

15. Changes to this Privacy Policy

BetHive may update this Privacy Policy when its website, services, providers or legal obligations change. The revised version will be published on this page with an updated date. Where appropriate, BetHive may give an additional notice or ask for a new consent choice.
